Over four hundred types of birds can be found here, and over one hundred species of mammals. As a whole, around eight hundred species of birds have been identified in Costa Rica.

Because of the area's sheer biological diversity, several pharmaceutical companies conduct extensive experiments on its plant life in hopes of finding new cures and remedies for modern ailments and diseases. Waiheke is about 20 kilometres long, and the climate is generally slightly warmer than Auckland's. The population is around 8000 but swells considerably during holiday seasons when Aucklanders and visitors from further afield flock to the island to enjoy the beach life and chilled-out atmosphere.

As well as the natural allure of sand and sea, Waiheke is popular for the regular dance parties held at Stonyridge Vineyard during the summer. The island plays host to a number of festivals including events dedicated to wine jazz, and these are definitely worth a look.

Wine is a huge part of island life. Waiheke is well known for its cabernet sauvignon which is famous throughout the world. There are over 20 vineyards containing around 300,000 vines. The Goldwater Estate is one of only two New Zealand vineyards to be named among the best in the world. Many vineyards offer tours and wine tasting events, and some have restaurants where guests can sample the local grape while enjoying scenic island views.

In his novel «Across the River and Into the Trees» Ernest Hemingway wrote that whenever you cross the bridge or pass the station at Padua, there are ruins all around. That's right, the Second World War has changed Padua's looks and the whole territory from the railway to the city centre is occupied by after-war buildings - such a pity since there was really a lot to look at there. Luckily, the central and the southern parts of the city were untouched by the bombings, that's why Padua - which, unfortunately, is often left aside from the popular travel routes - deserves your attention. Though, its true for the whole Italy, especially for its north - each city has something to show.

One of Padua's advantages is that it is easily accessible by train, bus or car from Venice, Milan, Verona, Bologna and Mantua. The city's main attraction is the Basilica of Saint Anthony, decorated with frescos by Altichiero da Zevio along with the bronze Madonna with Child, and six statues of Saints by Donatello. St Anthony's relics are kept in the richly decorated Treasury Chapel. Another work by Donatello is the equestrian monument of the Condottiero Gattamelata in front of the Basilica.

But those are not its architectiral treasures that you should see in Padua in the first place. First, visit its renowned Pedrocchi Cafè - one of the biggest cafes in the world. Everything is symbolic here: its location close to the second oldest univerisity - the hotbed for free thinking, as usually; its neoclassic style with antique-style porticos; its interior, with Egyptian, Eastern and other halls mixing luxury and naïvety. All in all, it is no wonder why its here that in the 40th of the XIX century the students' riots took place, thanks to which the Austrians were pushed out from the Italian territory. Another war. One of the halls contains a bullet hole, and opposite it there is a quotation from Stendhal's «The Charterhouse of Parma» describing the cafe. The menu contains lots of cocktails made of hot coffee and cold liquers - and you can hardly find a place where they would be prepared and mixed so excuisitely.

Then you can wander around the city, look into the Saint Anthony church, marvel at people's deep belief (there are many thank-you letters lying on the saint's sepulchre), then go to the Eremitani church and the Scrovegni Chapel. Don't forget, this must be the exact order. First, you have to see the beauty of what was the Mantegna frescoes - tiny pieces that survived the bombings. And then, go 200 meters farther to the Chapel where 700 years ago Giotto laid foundation to the Western art. The chapel was financed by the wealthy banker Enrico Scrovegni, to make satisfaction for sins of his father, a money-lender. He commissioned Giotto to decorate the chapel. The artist created 37 frescoes, known for the use of vivid colours.

And, finally, don't miss Palazzo del Bò, which houses the University of Padua. Many famous persons like Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca and Galileo Galilei worked here.

King Athelstan was buried here and he granted to the free men of Malmesbury a charter gifting them 500 acres of land on the south side of the town as a reward for their assistance in his struggle against the Danes. This resulted in an institution know as the Warden and Freemen being formed to look after and control this land and they are still in existence to this day.

So as you can see Malmesbury is steeped in history and its character has been protected as far as is possible making it a very popular destination on the tourist trails amongst the natives and those from all corners of the world. Some notable attractions within the city include the impressive City Hall, which was opened in 1906 and is a stunning Classical Renaissance landmark. Resting close to City Hall is the equally impressive Saint Anne’s Cathedral and also the lovely Victorian-built, Belfast Central Library. Another Victorian-built landmark is the striking Queens University Belfast, which rests amongst beautiful gardens. Equally famed for its architecture is the Crown Liquor Saloon, which has remained unchanged since Victorian times and is charmingly gas-lit.

For those interested in nature, Belfast is home the lovely Botanical Gardens, featuring a mixture of local, rare and tropical plants. Another popular outdoor attraction within the city is Belfast Zoo, which is involved in world-wide breeding programmes. Many visitors to the city follow the Mural Tour of large-wall political paintings that can be seen throughout the city. While, for those less politically-minded, the city offers an abundance of cafes, pubs and shops – particularly in Smithfield Market, where one-of-a-kind items are sold by independent retailers.

It consists of a small strip of coastal land with cliffs and beach and is also known for the many luminaries who live and visit there. Monaco is a remarkable example of a state with no natural resources and a small domain that was still able to develop itself into a world-class tourist destination.

1.) Palais du Prince

An imposing edifice, the Royal Palace was originally a thirteenth-century fortress. Aside from serving as the residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco and his family, the palace boasts many superbly-appointed apartments. Tours of the palace are scheduled when the Prince and his family are not around, and you might want to time your visit to coincide with the changing of the guard at 11:55 AM.

2.) Jardin Exotique

Monaco's mild climate lends itself to the flourishing of the many different kinds of plants in this botanical garden. The Museum of Prehistory and Anthropology, which displays various relics from both the pre-Roman and Roman eras of the region, is located within the area. There is also a grotto that has scheduled tours.

3.) Formula One Grand Prix

Every May and June, this microstate plays host to racing cars careering around its narrow streets at breakneck speeds. The Formula One World Championship Grand Prix race in Monaco is said to be the most difficult in the entire circuit. It's also possible to walk the route in the off-season, but watch out while crossing the street.

4.) Prince of Monaco's Car Collection

Oh, yes, His Highness is also an avid car enthusiast. In the event you visit Monaco in the racing off-season, you can always take a look at this pristine collection of a hundred or so four-wheelers. Beautiful things and beautiful people always seem to be associated with Monaco.

5.) Oceanographic Museum

This aquarium-cum-museum is located in the Jardins de St-Martin in Monaco-Ville. Built in 1911, it houses extensive collections of marine fauna and related exhibits. A statue outside the cliffside building commemorates Prince Albert I, who was a renowned marine scientist.

6.) Monaco Cathedral

This is located on the Avenue Saint-Martin, which also boasts lovely gardens. This turn-of-the-twentieth-century building is where Prince Rainier and Princess Grace married. The cathedral is also her resting place, and the bones of many of the ruling Grimaldi family lie there, too.

7.) Harbor Tours

Hang out at Monaco's busy harbor. You'll see passenger ferries as well as the yachts of the rich and famous, either tied up at the docks or coming or going. You might even spot a famous face or two.

8.) Shopping

Expect to pay top dollar for everything while in Monaco. Some shopping places include the Golden Circle near the Avenue Monte Carlo and the Fontvieille Shopping Center. If you want to be more personally involved in your purchases, you might wish to visit the Condamine Market near the Place d'Ames.

9.) Gambling

Monaco grew up around its casinos. In the Place du Casino is the Casino de Paris, known as much for its architecture and opulent furnishings as well as its clientele. The Monaco Casino is another well-known casino for high rollers, which enforces a jacket-and-tie dress code.

10.) Dining

In Monaco, one can find establishments serving everything from hot dogs to pricey meals that only rich gastronomes could love (and afford). A mid-upper-range place to go to is the Café de Paris. At the Hotel de Paris you'll find the most expensive restaurants, the Le Grill de L'Hotel de Paris and the Louis XV.

Norwich can trace its roots back to Roman times and although it is some way from the coast, it played a large role in the times of the Norman Conquest, probably due to its importance for trade even in those days. Indeed at that time it is thought to have been one of the largest cities in the country.

Times have moved on and Norwich is now more famous for its shopping than its distant invaders.

Shoppers will be delighted to visit the ancient market place which has been thriving since the time of the Normans and is now the largest open air market in England, opening six days a week.

More modern shops can be found in The Mall (which recently changed its name from Castle Mall, so you may still find references to the old name in some guide books). This was built to blend in with the historic city and much of the building is built into the side of a hill.

Its main rival is the Chapelfield mall, which has been built on the site of an old chocolate factory.

As a university town, you can expect to find a wide range of other things to do, some cultural, some less so.

Make sure you book your Norwich hotel in advance if you visit at the same time as the annual Norfolk and Norwich Festival. This arts and music festival draws crowds in from across the county and from further afield and can trace its roots back to 1772. Recently, it has featured performers such as Ray Davies (of Kinks fame) and the London Philharmonic Orchestra playing a score from a Charlie Chaplin film. There are both indoor and outdoor performances during the festival, some of which are free events.

Norwich residents fortunately have a sense of humor: the fictitious radio DJ Alan Partridge, brainchild of actor Steve Coogan, broadcasts his shows from the city.

Sports fans will hope to take in a game by the Canaries, the nickname of Norwich City football club when they play at Carrow Road.

Unexpectedly for a mainly fenland area, there is a Norfolk Ski and Snowboarding club at nearby Trowse. So you may be able to practice your skills when you are in town.

Perhaps because of its excellent shopping, Norwich is a popular city break destination. The shopping features both the usual national chain retailers as well as many local stores where you can come across a variety of more unusual items. You can also investigate the history of the area and walk down its cobbled streets, maybe on your way to one of the several museums who make there home here.

Historical buildings include Norwich Cathedral, which can trace its roots back to the eleventh century and the castle (which is now actually a museum) which is about 100 years younger than the cathedral.
